FITOUT FOR THE FUTURE
Creating a unique heritage experience. Bringing our history into the future.
Bringing our historyinto the future
Imagine being immersed in the geological past, local fossils, wildlife and botany, early Māori heritage, European settlement and recent social history. Real objects, amazing images, interactive exhibits and digital experiences – a world-class experience.
The new heritage facility being built beside the Theatre Royal will have a 580m2 permanent local heritage gallery. Here is where something incredible can be created that will put this new facility and our region on the map. The South Canterbury Museum team have been working with experienced museum exhibition designers to develop a concept plan and budget to create an incredible local heritage experience in this new space.
This will be so much more than a traditional museum display. Modern projection and touchscreen technology will bring the stories, objects and images to life to create unforgettable experiences. This will be a place to enjoy, discover and learn, and to return to time and time again.
Initial design work has enabled the Museum to identify likely costs for this project – a sum of $2 million. A large part of this will go to local contractors for much of the fit-out and ongoing maintenance. Our Trust is working to meet the costs of this fit-out.
